Technical Sales Manager - DACH

This position is field based in North Germany.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a solid pipeline of new projects and customers for the North of Germany and maintain a database of customers and qualified leads.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of annual sales plan which ties into overall business plan.

  • Participate in sales activities in Germany and Switzerland such as open days, workshops and presentations.

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of SMS products / software

  • Understand the capability, benefits, and competitive advantages of our instruments.

  • In coordination with Sales Director, identify, qualify, develop, and close sales opportunities.

  • Sell consultatively: Promote and educate clients regarding Surface Measurement Systems’ instruments and services with a sales development perspective.

  • Build and establish a scientific based working relationship with clients to facilitate increased patronage and revenue, collect feedback and ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Manage client expectations in conjunction with the application and development team.
  •  Support the local marketing and advertising activities
  • Identify, document requirements and communicate potential new product, service and solution opportunity for company.

  • Maintain accurate records of all sales and prospecting activities including sales calls, presentations, closed sales, and follow up activities within their assigned territory.

  • Meet or exceed sales targets.

Must Have

  • Bachelor’s or Master´s degree or equivalent relevant work experience and/or training

  • Must be prepared to travel both Nationally and Internationally 60% of their time.
  • Proven ability to quickly become technically credible in new areas

  • Strong scientific skills, especially in porous or surface science

  • Excellent communications skills including writing and speaking (German and English)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work together with customers with a win-win mentality.
  • Customer orientated with good instinct for new business opportunities.
  • Proven ability to positively influence buying decisions of end users and decision makers
  • Ability to develop and deliver credible technical presentations.
  • Scientific understanding of material characterisation, measurement products or related scientific equipment.
  • Good organisation and ability to work autonomously.
  • Valid work permit for Germany

Nice to have

  • Experience in developing and delivering credible technical presentations

  • An understanding of the operation of ISO9001:2015 and how quality management systems can improve customer satisfaction.

  • Experience in technical communications and preferably sales of Scientific Instruments

  • Good understanding and experience of customer and market dynamics. Preferably established good relationships to scientists and research groups in Germany
